Avalon Airshow 2011
This weekend Passy World visited the awesome Australian International Airshow at Avalon.
There was a huge crowd of well over 100,000 people and plenty to see and do.
We had a great time checking out all the latest and greatest in military aircraft, as well as some classics of the skies, such as the Spitfire and Tiger Moth.
The following Wondershare Slideshow is a music clip of our photos, along with those of our friend Athena.
Watch it full screen in HD, by clicking the YouTube controls down at the bottom right hand corner of the video.
Wondershare is great for making music videos of your photos which you can then either save as HD MPEG4 and upload to YouTube, or burn onto DVD.

The only down side to the day, was the acute shortage of toilets and food stalls. For some reason this company called Nandos seemed to have won the catering tender for the show, but were well under-equipped to feed the massive crowd.
As you can see in the photo below, hundreds of people were queued up to buy food throughout the day. And pretty much the only place you could buy food was at Nandos. We had to wait in line for 45 minutes after 2pm in the afternoon, only to get our food order totally different to what we had asked for.
The chicken wraps only contained lettuce and some sort of awful tissue paper tasting processed chicken fillet. There were no tomatoes or cucumber or mayonaise, that were supposed to be in them, and they cost an incredibly overpriced $9.95 each.
The chicken burger my son had was supposed to have no salad, and was jammed full of salad with spicy hot sauce that we never ordered with it.
A HUGE thumbs down to Nandos, and we will certainly never be eating any of their food again!
If you want to see a summary of all the Airshow action, then here is a three minute information advertisement for the Airshow from YouTube.
There have been a couple of great Australian guys covering the airshow in an excellent series of video blogs on YouTube channel "planecrazydownunder".
Here is Grant McHerron and Steve Visscher's wrap up of Day 4 Friday's action at the Airshow:
Check out their channel for full and brilliant coverage of every day's action from the Airshow.
And another great video from YouTube is the following one by Allister Smith, which shows the mighty FA/18 Hornet in action at the end of Saturday.
Back in his younger days of being a nerd, Big Passy actually worked as a Research Scientist on the F18 Hornet manufacturing project right here in Melbourne Australia. Big Passy's job was to formulate and test epoxy resins that would hold together the carbon fibre parts of the plane during extreme humidity in Northern Queensland. It was a job I kind of stuck with for a while, before I moved on into music production and computer nerd fun.
So pilots and military personnel, Passy World salutes you guys for a great job done at the Avalon Airshow!
Wow this weekend has flown by so fast!
Enjoy,
Big Passy Wasabi
